Business Degrees at the Graduate Level

"I'm thinking of getting my MBA. I may eventually want to earn my DBA, but I'm not sure. If I earn my MBA now, will I be able to earn my DBA faster in the future?"

Though it depends on what university you attend, the short answer is "no." It is not likely that you would be able to earn your Doctor of Business Administration, or DBA, faster by earning an MBA first. The quick reason? Because most universities have very different academic requirements between their MBA and DBA programs, it is likely that you will have to start a DBA program from square one, despite having an MBA.

What's the good news?

It is not necessary to earn a master's degree before applying for a research doctorate, or DBA. If you're doing your homework on MBA programs, you may want to read our guide on earning your MBA online and see all the business degree programs that are offered in an online format.

Listed below are some of the most popular programs for master's degrees in business:

Focus on: Self-paced Programs

What is it?

Self-paced means that you progress through your coursework as quickly or as slowly as you need. Self-paced programs do not require you to log into a course at any specific time.

Typically, a self-paced program delivers study materials to you, and once you complete a lesson, they will send you the second set of study materials. This continues until you complete your program.

Allied Schools is a nationally accredited school that offers self-paced programs. Their programs are great for anyone whose daily routine changes constantly (parents, military personnel, etc.)

Allied offers programs in fields like real estate, medical coding & billing, and more. Allied also offers 100 percent Tuition Assistance for members of the military.

Online Student Interview: Jenine K.

"I am intelligent, confident, and capable!"

As a single mother, Jenine certainly has had to sacrifice to go back to school. The one thing that she didn't want to give up? Precious time with her daughter. Distance learning was a way for Jenine to balance her time, and she learned a lot about herself along the way.

"I also believe it is important to take steps towards achieving my goals rather than let life pass me by, always wondering if I could accomplish the goals."

Read about the experience of this 32 year-old mom who is making a better life for herself and her daughter.
