"What is the difference?"

The difference between earning a bachelor of arts (BA) and earning a bachelor of science (BS) varies depending on the school. For most colleges and universities in the United States, BA programs allow for a student to take more elective courses. In other words, BA students typically have to take fewer required courses to fulfill their major.

For the most part, BS students have a more structured course schedule in order to fulfill the requirements for their major. Ellis University, whose main campus is located in New York City, offers mostly bachelor of science programs, but lists two bachelor of arts programs (both are offered by their English Department).
