Online Degrees in the Arts News for the Week of November 5th, 2007
Online Degree Programs in the Arts
"What are the arts?"
The arts is an area of study that is not part of the sciences. For example, philosophy, literature, the visual arts, music, etc. Yes, you can study all of those topics online (even music!)
One thing you may notice on our site is that we list two sections, "Liberal Arts" and "General Arts". What's the difference? The liberal arts covers more of the humanities, like literature and some of the social sciences. The general arts include studying the fine arts, visual arts, and art history.
Within the arts, design has been an area of study that has become very popular in recent years. The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, whose main campus is the hometown of pop artist Andy Warhol, launched its online program in 2000. If you want to learn more about design degree programs, be sure to read our "Mini-Guide" about studying design.

Hot Careers in 2007: Locksmith
Archeological evidence suggests that the first locks were being used over 3,000 to 4,000 year ago in Egypt.
Today, new jobs for locksmiths are growing at a rate of nine to 17 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Locksmiths are very important, especially in areas where there are a lot of residences are rented (new tenants need new keys, or need key copies to be made). Penn Foster Career School provides self-paced training programs for individuals interested in learning about locksmithing.
The Penn Foster Career School is nationally accredited, and provides courses that are self-paced. Self-paced means that students can study in their spare time. When you have completed a lesson, you will be mailed the next lesson right away. And you can start your lessons at any time.
You can train for a great career as a locksmith on a schedule that works for you. Learn about this school and see if the Penn Foster Career School's programs might work for you.

Online Student Interview: Ron
"Family comes first."
Ron, a father of two, loved that his art degree program didn't require that he had to move cross country to go to a great school. "Distance learning allows me to get a top education form a great art school. The closest art school to me is 75 miles away."
