Having Your Employer Contribute to Your Tuition
I would like to take some courses to help me strengthen my job skills. What should I do if my company doesn't offer tuition assistance?
Tuition assistance, or tuition reimbursement, is a benefit offered by some employers to their employees. Typically the process involves employees receiving approval for specific courses or degree programs. The employer agrees to pay, or reimburse, an employee a portion of their tuition.
Tuition assistance can be a huge help to adult learners, helping offset educational costs. Not all employers offer this kind of benefit or perk. If you are a working adult who is interested in earning a degree or taking courses to improve your job skills, you can make a strong case to your manager about why tuition assistance may be in your company's best interest.
Though the federal government has education tax deductions and credits in place to help citizens afford higher education, sometimes the cost of tuition is too great for a single family household to manage. Education is a win-win for both employer and employee. Gain useful talking points for addressing tuition assistance with your manager or employer in our article What If My Employer Doesn't Offer Tuition Assistance.

Online Student Interview: Tiffany
" considering the fact that I held a full-time job and was working 50+ hours a week, it was sometimes difficult to place the same importance on finishing my coursework as I did on completing my work objectives."
Tiffany was still academically ambitious after earning her bachelor's degree. She wanted to get the best start possible, so she went for her MBA. "I knew I had to [get my MBA] in order to advance in the business world."
Today, this Florida native is working at a marketing firm. Her company helped her earn her degree by providing tuition assistance to its employees.
"I lucked out by working for a company that values education as much as I do and was willing to help me accomplish my educational goals."
Read about the experience of this 25-year-old go-getter whose competitive spirit keeps her learning.
