Distance Learning Vocabulary

There's so much to know about online degrees. Is there a way I can become familiarized with the vocabulary?

Do you know the difference between the terms "distance learning" and distance education? How about "synchronous," "asynchronous," and "self-paced"?

Sometimes enrollment materials require some deciphering; there's a lot to comprehend. Equip yourself with a working knowledge of the vocabulary and you will be able to understand the academic world better. Our distance learning glossary can help you practice DL (distance learning) terminology.

Online Student Interview: Dave

"I didn't want to take out a student loan and found I could afford one class a semester without too big of an impact on my family budget."

Dave works in law enforcement, but first and foremost, he is a husband, father, and provider. When considering his professional and academic needs, he had to consider his family's needs first. Typically, everyone in the family benefits when a parent earns a degree.

"I wanted to show my … kids that dad reads too, and the importance of time management."

Read about the experience of this 45-year-old husband, father, and online student.
