Choosing a Degree Program

I know that I want to get promoted, but what should I study academically to earn more and move up in my career?

Most professionals know what field of study fits their career goals, but for some, the choice is not so obvious. For those interested in changing careers, the decision can be especially difficult.

"I technically am not qualified for the position [I applied for] but I thought, 'Hey they didn't require an MBA and I'm going to have one in October, so let's see if it piques someone's interest in me.' The position would mark a career change out of law enforcement," says Aldureaux, who's earning his MBA from Ashford University.

Though Aldureaux has many years of experience in law enforcement, he's earning his MBA so that he can assume a leadership role in any field.

Sometimes the choice can be difficult because there are related academic fields, such as counseling and psychology. To learn more about the different fields of study that are available online, read through our "Mini-Guides" to Online Degrees.

As you narrow your choices make your decision about what subject to study, be sure you have dedicated enough time to learning the related fields.
